Silent Hill 2 Remake (HexaDrive)
Date: 2019
Developer: HexaDrive
Before the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2 from Bloober Team became a hit, HexaDrive—a Japanese studio known for its technical skills—tried to get its own version off the ground.
It started around 2018 when Konami asked them to port the original Silent Hill games to modern consoles. Instead, HexaDrive’s team spent six months building a "proof-of-concept" demo. They wanted to prove that Silent Hill 2 deserved a complete, high-fidelity remake rather than just a basic port.
Konami ultimately passed on HexaDrive’s pitch in 2019 and chose more experienced Bloober Team to work on the game's remake. However, the work didn't go to waste. Konami was so impressed by the demo's atmosphere that they brought HexaDrive back a few months later to lead the development of the free-to-play spin-off, Silent Hill: The Short Message.
HexaDrive's vision for the remake of Silent Hill 2 was released in 2024 as part of the Short Message developer interviews.
