Stat Upgrades and Ema

On this page, you will find information on how to upgrade Hinako's abilities and a complete list of all Ema locations that are necessary for such upgrades.

Stat Upgrades

Ema are collectibles that can be used to upgrade Hinako's stats: health, stamina, sanity and the number of omamori slots. There are a total of 22 Ema to be found in the game, 9 of which are only available during New Game+ and the last one only during New Game++, so you'll need at least three full playthroughs to collect them all and max out your stats.

To upgrade your stats, visit Hokora shrines and use the Pray option. Each upgrade costs one Ema and a certain amount of faith that can be acquired through the Enshrine option by giving different types of consumables as well as offerings:

  • Arare (⛩10)
  • Ramune (⛩20)
  • Yokan (⛩30)
  • Divine Water (⛩50)
  • Higashi (⛩80)
  • Chocolate (⛩80)
  • Kudzu Tea (⛩100)
  • Inari Sushi (⛩150)
  • Dried Carcass (⛩200)
  • Antique Comb (⛩300)
  • Shriveled Abura-age (⛩500)

The cost of the Health, Stamina and Sanity upgrades increases with each level:

  • ⛩500
  • ⛩800
  • ⛩1100
  • ⛩1400
  • ⛩1700
  • ⛩2000

In total, you will need 22,500 faith and 18 Ema to upgrade Hinako's stats fully. Fully upgrading Hinako's Health, Sanity, and Stamina grants you the Close to the Sun trophy/achievement.

You can also increase the number of your omamori slots, which should be your priority, as these can get very helpful, and you can use different combinations for different battles. There are four upgrades possible to a maximum of 5 omamori slots (3 maximum in regular game and 5 in New Game+):

  • ⛩1500
  • ⛩3000
  • ⛩3000
  • ⛩3000

In total, you will need 10,500 faith and 4 Ema to upgrade Hinako's omamori slots fully.
