Complete Walkthrough
Head down the mountain
After leaving Hinako's house, before you take the path down the mountain to the right, you can head left and up the hill to find a collectible document, Article: Serious Issues in Ebisugaoka (1), on a small table situated just outside the small house.
Entry to the mountain is blocked, so turn around and go back past Hinako's house. You'll find another document on the plant stand in front of the house, titled Local Doctor's Note (7).
New Game+Go to the right side of the house at the road bend to find yet another Local Doctor's Note (6) lying on the stone block. |
As you approach the shrine ahead, Hinako will suggest that she prays. The shrine you see is a Hokora, where you can record your progress or change costumes. Recording allows you to save your game. Each time you discover a Hokora, it will also be marked on your map.
Continue following the winding road. After the hokora, you can examine some items behind the house – empty beer bottles and a woman's magazine. Proceed either through the house's garden or the main road.
New Game+In the garden shed of the house, you can find Research Notes on "Exotic Herbology" on a wooden stool. |
The isolated house in the east is locked, so continue southwest, where Hinako will start to wonder where everyone is.
New Game+: Sacred Sword PuzzleThe previously locked house in the east is now open so that you can explore for some extra items, including items required for the new endings. First, check a photo on the dining table in the living area to pick up Research Journal Photo 1 and Regarding the "Legend of the Sacred Sword" (2) document. This will start the Sacred Sword Puzzle; its completion is required for the new endings. You can also collect Arare (⛩10) from the corner of a TV cabinet. Head upstairs and enter the second room. You can examine some items around the room, then take the Balcony Key in the crate with a doll in the corner. Proceed through the balcony door and enter the other room using the key. Inside the room, you can find the Upgrade: Packing Tips magazine inside the box on the table that will upgrade your inventory capacity. Then, check a document on a dresser to collect A Boy's Diary and a Treasure Hunting Game Key. With the collected key, you are now able to unlock five small chests around the house:
The four of these contain just the Treasure Hunt Game Notes, but the last one in the storage will have the Faded Bride Doll (replaced with the Chocolate (⛩80) if picked up in earlier games). Note: On New Game++, you don't have to collect this item if you completed the puzzle in earlier runs. You can also collect two Arare (⛩10) from the drawers in the kitchen. |
Head to the Chizuruya General Store
Your next target will be the Chizuruya General Store, located to the south of your current position. Head down and pick up the Article: Serious Issues in Ebisugaoka (2), close to a red post box.
Proceed down the road and approach the blue truck up ahead for a cutscene. After the cutscene, turn left and find a gap between the houses to squeeze through. Follow the alley for a cutscene with Hinako's friend, Sakuko.
Proceed further. At the street junction, you can check the notice board for the notice of a missing girl. Follow the street, then take the right turn at the well and go forward to approach another friend of Hinako, Shu, to start another cutscene. At the end of the cutscene, the gang will be attacked by a mysterious fog monster, and you will have to run for your life.
Escape from the Fog Monster
Follow the path ahead while avoiding the red flowers on the floor and red tendrils on the walls that will grab Hinako and prevent her from moving, as well as damaging her health. Look for the streetlights that will guide you to the following location, so you don't get lost. Keep running until you reach a dead end with seemingly no escape from the monster. After a slight pause, a cutscene triggers and a wooden ladder is dropped by a mysterious helper, allowing Hinako to escape.
Trophy/Achievement: Like a Fleeing Hare |
Escape from the Fog Monster at Ebisugawa without getting hit. You can attempt this again by dying and selecting Continue. |
After your escape, you will take a look at the Note from Shu and Red Capsules from the Capsule Case, as given to Hinako by her friend in the cutscene earlier.
New Game+: Ending RequirementsYou can't take any Red Capsules if you wish to receive any of the new endings. Discard and unequip them in your equipment menu to avoid accidentally taking them, and don't collect them further in the game. You will also receive the Trophy/Achievement: Winners Don’t Do Drugs for avoiding Red Capsules. |
Proceed further to find a Bandage on the ledge to the right.
New Game+There will also be a Steel Pipe here so that you can engage in combat with monsters from the very start. The two monster cutscenes will also be skipped, with the monsters still present in those locations. |
Find a way back to the Chizuruya General Store
Cross the bridge over the waterway to the south side. Before taking the ladder up, follow the path till the end to collect more Red Capsules. Climb up and hop over a low masonry wall. Squeeze between the buildings and continue down the path until you trigger a cutscene with the first monster, called Kashimashi, and your first combat tutorial, in which you will learn to dodge. As you don't have any weapons yet, this is all you can do to stay safe.
Note: This cutscene is skipped in New Game+. You can also engage in combat.
Avoid the monsters and move ahead
Run from the monster down the stairs and then along the water. Cross the second bridge to the right to grab some additional Red Capsules on a small table under the roof. Before you proceed up the edge, lit by a street lamp, you can explore the area for some additional items.
Cross the bridge to the north side of the waterway, find a small alley with a light and climb underneath some blocking structure. You will hear a radio crackling up ahead. Go downstairs to the basement, where you will find a Yokan (⛩30) and a radio to listen to.
New Game+: UFO EndingIn New Game+, the radio will transmit a different broadcast talking about the Magogawa Bridge being attacked by an unknown object. Interact with the radio to listen to the broadcast and begin the quest for the UFO ending (The Great Space Invasion!). |
Head back, stay on the northern bank and run east. Walk across a plank to the south and then another plank to the north side and enter the shack to find Red Capsules and the Local Doctor's Note (2).
Backtrack and climb the wall highlighted by a streetlight. Climb the stairs and turn right. You can find more Red Capsules in a wooden crate on the floor to the right. Follow the path to the south and then west until you reach a house. Step inside.
Investigate the House
Find Red Capsules on a dining table and a Bandage in the drawer to the right. The back door up ahead cannot be opened without a key, so head upstairs. Enter the room at the top of the stairs, grab the Yokan (⛩30) from the right drawer, and collect the Red Capsules on the table. Check the bloodied mask on the floor to pull a Bloody Key from it.
Exit the room to find a monster coming out of the opposite room. Lure it into the corridor to give you more space for maneuver and enter the room. You can open the balcony door immediately and escape, but exploring a bit more will reward you with an essential item. In the room, turn right to find the Back Door Key on a table.
Head downstairs and use the key to open the door in the back of the house. There's another woman's magazine for you to check to the left of the door. Climb down the ladder and collect an Omamori [Whale] (replaced by a Dried Carcass (⛩200) in NG+ if the item is already picked up in earlier games).
Note: Collecting all hidden omamori will grant you the Omamori Sage trophy/achievement.
Return to the house and exit through the balcony door in the room on the second floor. Walk across the roofs and climb down the ladder into the alleyway.
Return to Chizuruya General Store while avoiding the monsters
Proceed through the alley, drop down and grab Red Capsules in a dead end to the right before continuing your way. Cross the bridge while avoiding the monster that jumps from above, and then cross another one to be back on the south side of the waterway. You can find a Bandage in a basket at the northwest dead end. Turn around and look for an alleyway lit by a streetlamp.
Immediately to the left, you can find an Antique Comb (⛩300), a type of valuable offering that can be enshrined at a Hokora just ahead. You will also be able to draw random omamori now using Faith received from the offerings.
Note: The cost of the shrine omamori starts at ⛩300 (⛩400 if playing at the hard action level) and increases by 100 all the way until ⛩1000 maximum. Collecting all shrine omamori will grant you the Omamori Collector trophy/achievement.
New Game+After the hokora shrine, go downstairs and turn right. Immediately after the stairs to the right, you will find the first box sealed with the Inari-sama emblem that you will be able to open now with the Brooch given by Fox Mask. This one contains the Diary of Revenge (1) and Upgrade: Ema – an item used to upgrade Hinako's stats (replaced by an Antique Comb (⛩300) if the items are already picked up in earlier games). A little further down the path, you can grab a Kitchen Knife for a weapon. |
Follow the path until you run into another cutscene with a monster, where you will be awarded a Steel Pipe and introduced to the combat mechanics. Fight the creature to get used to the combat.
After the fight is over, you can also grab a Bandage on a podium to the right in front of the stairs.
Find Shu and Rinko
Proceed via the stairs until you reach the waterway, where you will be introduced to another combat tutorial on the counter mechanics. Practice all you like and then make your way across the bridge. Climb the stairs and then another, and you will find a Toolkit on a wooden ledge at the top. Move ahead and check the alleyway to the left (beware of a lurking monster) for a Ramune (⛩20) in a wooden crate.
Cross the bridge, grab a Yokan (⛩30) from the table and go up the stairs. Turn right, fight or avoid the monster and continue the path. Grab another Ramune (⛩20) in a wooden crate at the corner. Eventually, you will arrive at a small courtyard next to the Chizuruya General Store with a Hokora, a Steel Pipe (a Baseball Bat in New Game+) next to it and Red Capsules across the yard.
Head to the store for a cutscene
Defeat the monsters
After taking care of her dear friend, Hinako will have to fight three Kashimashi monsters. With the final creature defeated, Hinako observes as the scenery around her changes, and she passes out.
